HM

HM - Håkonsson Motor. Legendary Sven Haakonsson is a pioneer in Swedish 50cc racing.
Sometimes referred to as the Swedish Jan Thiel, experimented with 50cc race- engines
from an early age. First engine was a DOHC 4-stroke based on a 31cc Lohmann crankcase.
Next, again a 50cc DOHC 4- stroke, now based on the housings of a Puch 125, and from 1962,
the last of the 50cc 4- strokes, a Ducati 125 turned 50.
After that he turned to the twostrokes and became Sweden´s #1 tuner. Special barrels and
heads were made for the Sachs, Maico, and later disc- valve conversions was added.
The HM (Håkonsson Motor) modified customer bikes, took a string of Swedish championships,
and some even World- championship points (70, 71, 72, and 73).
And when the Monark factory wanted in on the fiftees, Sven Håkonsson was of course a
strong member of that team!
